Preserving Land, People, and Legacy
At Roederer Estate, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. From responsible land stewardship and water conservation to organic and Biodynamic® farming and supporting our dedicated team, we are committed to practices that preserve the health of our vineyards and community for generations to come.

Land Stewardship & Sustainable Farming
We believe that great wines start in the vineyard, which is why we prioritize responsible farming practices that nurture the land and protect the surrounding ecosystem. Our estate is Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing and 100% Fish Friendly Certified, reflecting our commitment to preserving the Navarro River and preventing vineyard sediment runoff.
Across our Anderson Valley vineyards, we implement sustainable farming methods that go beyond the required certifications. We farm 100 acres organically and apply Biodynamic® preparations to select vineyards, enhancing soil health and vine resilience through natural, regenerative methods. Our commitment to biodiversity also includes the use of local sheep herds, which graze the vineyards during the winter months to naturally manage weeds and enrich the soil with nutrients.
Careful vineyard management ensures that each parcel is farmed in a way that maximizes its unique potential. We tailor trellis systems and planting densities to match site characteristics, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern viticultural innovations to maintain balance and quality in every grape.

Our dedication to stewardship is a reflection of our passion for quality winemaking, our deep roots in Anderson Valley, and our belief in creating a thriving future for all who call this region home.

Water Conservation & Resource Management
Sustainability at Roederer Estate extends beyond the vineyard—our winery operations also prioritize conservation and efficiency. Water is a precious resource in Anderson Valley, and we take great care to minimize waste and maximize efficiency. One of our key initiatives is the reclamation of winery wash waters, which we repurpose for vineyard irrigation, reducing our overall water consumption while maintaining soil hydration and vine health.
In addition to water conservation, we take a circular approach to organic waste management. We craft nutrient-rich compost from winery pomace and local sheep manure, returning vital organic matter to the soil. These efforts not only enhance vineyard health but also reduce waste, creating a self-sustaining cycle that supports long-term soil fertility.

Investing in Our People & Community
Our commitment to sustainability is as much about people as it is about the land. Since 1982, we have made it a priority to provide housing for our vineyard and winery teams, ensuring that those who care for our vines have a place to call home. This ongoing effort has resulted in the construction and remodeling of homes on the estate, with nearly 85% of our workforce living on-site.
Many of our team members represent multiple generations of families who have worked at Roederer Estate, passing down invaluable knowledge and craftsmanship. By fostering a stable and supportive environment, we not only strengthen our team but also uphold a tradition of excellence that is reflected in every bottle of wine we produce.
