A fine mousse marks the 2017 L'Ermitage. This wine is only made in certain vintages, such as the estate's tete de cuvee. Special cask-aged wines are added to the L'Ermitage to add complexity and depth, in this case, aged reserve wine from 2012. This vintage was marked by a wet winter, with slow ripening in the Anderson Valley and a Labor Day heat wave. The addition of Pinot Meunier was to mitigate the impact of the heat wave as it was picked earlier or before, in this case. This wine shows bruised apples, nutmeg spice, poached pears and quince paste. This wine shows power and depth, elegance and longevity.

Delightful citrus notes with yellow apple, faint white flowers, sourdough, brioche and a hint of hazelnut. Full-bodied with a very delicate and fine bead, and crisp acidity. Beautiful finesse with an amusing transparency and freshness to it. Very refreshing, too. Fine bubbles. Structured. Drink with meat.

Opulent yet detailed, with expressive pear and cherry flavors accented by roasted hazelnut, brioche and fresh ginger. Builds richness on the plush finish.

Roederer Estate "is often hailed as one of the most consistent producers of fine California sparkling wines by many of our colleagues. The 2017 vintage is no exception; it is straw colored in the glass with persistent mousse and perlage. Aromas of freshly baked bread, lemon curd, and caramelized pineapple pave the way for flavors of candied apricot, white peach, and Bartlett pear with a zing of zesty brightness in the finish."
