Brut Rosé Multi-Vintage

94 Points

A delicious rosé that comes across dry, with baked strawberry-pie character, in a subtle and attractive way. Some peach, too. It’s full and very layered. Fine bubbles at the end that melt into the wine. Clear and beautiful. 56% pinot noir and 44% chardonnay. Drink now.”

This is a powerful and dense sparkling wine that is first and foremost a classic-quality wine. And then you think about the bubbles. Full-bodied with lots of brioche, pie crust and bread dough. Great finish. Five years on the lees. 52% chardonnay and 48% pinot noir. Drink now.”

Extremely fresh and floral with sliced apples, stones and some white peach. Bread dough, too. Fine bead. Medium to full body with crisp acidity and a steely finish. Hints of phenolics provide a fine texture. Vibrant acidity. About 15% reserve wine (mostly chardonnay) in this, from five vintages. 2.5 years on the lees. 60% chardonnay and 40% pinot noir. Drink or hold.”

A rich fruitiness and an intriguing savory, meaty quality lend rare complexity and interest to this light-copper-colored and creamy-textured wine. Flavors from dried apricot to raspberry to ginger light up the palate, while crisp acidity and an ultrafine bead of bubbles make a perfect texture.”

This grand, special-occasion wine is wonderfully complex and layered, but also powerful in the way its toasted walnut, Bosc pear and fresh bread flavors start out strong in the aroma and keep pumping on the palate and through a lingering finish. Nice and dry, tangy but mouthfilling, it’s a sophisticated indulgence. Best now to 2028.”

The 2013 Roederer Estate l’Ermitage” Brut Rosé is comprised of a blend of fifty percent each of chardonnay and pinot noir in this vintage, with a small percentage of the pinot being still red wine to give the lovely salmon color to the bottling. The wine was finished with a dosage of eight grams per liter and offers up a lovely bouquet of strawberries, dried cherries, a touch of melon, rose petals, a fine base of soil, orange peel and a discreet topnote of cinnamon. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied and still zesty, with a good core, elegant mousse, snappy acids and a long, complex and nicely balanced finish. This is not quite as seamless on the palate as the 2015 l’Ermitage, and I would opt for still giving this a few years in the cellar to allow the fine spine of acidity here to relax a bit more. 2023 – 2040.”

I know that there are a lot of extremely good sparkling wines now made in the United States, but to my palate, the Roederer Estate l’Ermitage” bottling is the finest. The 2015 vintage of this excellent wine is composed of a cépages of fifty-two percent chardonnay and forty-eight percent pinot noir. It was finished with a dosage of eight grams per liter in this vintage. The wine delivers a superb and very refined bouquet of tart pear, apple, fresh-baked bread, a complex base of soil, discreet smokiness and a topnote of dried flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, young, full-bodied and very elegant in profile, with a lovely core, excellent soil signature, bright acids, extremely elegant mousse and a long, complex and beautifully balanced finish. This is so seamlessly balanced that it is already drinking very well at six years of age, but it has the potential to blossom and improve with bottle age and I would love to drink it a decade down the road! The 2015 is clearly a very, very special vintage for the l’Ermitage bottling at Roederer Estate! 2021 – 2045.”

An enticing, toasty, nutty aroma leads to crisp and complex flavors in this medium-bodied wine that is braced by good acidity and a fine bead of bubbles. Subtle, mature notes complement the elegant texture.”

A panoply of subtle aromas and delicate flavors wrapped in a silky, slightly crisp texture give this medium-bodied wine a great sense of elegance. Fresh ginger, biscuits, toasted almonds and mild cherry nuances fill the palate. Best through 2025.”

This wonderfully elegant and subtle wine is well-suited for a special occasion now through at least 2025. It offers complex and intriguing aromas of toast, ginger and raspberry followed by a light but creamy mouthfeel buoyed by minute, persistent bubbles.”
